Edward Hopper "Nighthawks"

This oil painting on canvas was created in 1942 by American artist Edward Hopper (1882-1967) and is spacious (33.1 x 60.0 inches). The composition of the picture begins at the corner of a dark and desolate street. Like an aquarium or a glass cage, the typical restaurant stands out from the darkness around it. Transported down this dark street like a silent passer-by contemplating mysterious interactions in religious silence? The combination of brown, tan and electric blue creates a feeling of worry. I needed this sense of atmosphere to invite the audience to analyze and meditate on the relationship between humans and animals.

Therefore, I learned and conducted color research and contrast to create a lonely, dark and thinking atmosphere through tones.

hybrids

Some painting research on hybrids

As we all know, in our real world, human beings are in a leading position in all life, but I found through the study of a unit that if the audience can be in a different level, they may have different feelings, so I created a dream. In this world, I continue to take the element of a human-animal hybrid and place this hybrid in a leader position, inside a cafe watching life outside,Because we don't know if the hybrid is human or animal, we can't determine its status, and when a human looks into the hybrid's eyes, it's like looking at one of his own kind, but it's not...

Human

In the center of the composition, I placed a man's back to reinforce the mysterious atmosphere of the work: What is he doing here alone? The shadow effect on his suit makes us consider his inner darkness even more enthusiastically. Even if there are signs, one thing is certain: the man is thinking about the status relationship between man and animal. I set the man in the position where the audience is facing the picture, which is more convenient for the audience to enter the world in the painting and think about it.

Rhinoceros

The reason why I chose the rhino is that it is a large animal and its status in the animal world is similar to that of humans, and I put it in the same status as humans in the world I created, because this world is abstract and humans can use the rhino as a reference to feel the status gap between themselves and the hybrid I created, and analyze the relationship between humans and animals.
